Love and Imperfections
Copyright © Grant Lawrence (2004)
Doctors and Attorneys are said to practice their professions. As followers of love and understanding, our way is also a practice. We practice those thoughts, words, and actions that put us in harmony with all of life. But, we must not forget that this takes discipline and motivation. We may focus on our own imperfections (or sins as some see it) or the imperfections of others; but even these imperfections are necessary for our journey on this path. If we were all perfect then what would there be that needed our love and compassion? Think about it; our own imperfections give others the chance to practice love, and the imperfections of others allow us the opportunity to practice love.
Also be glad for imperfections, since that is only one way of viewing it, and know that life itself could not exist without this perceived irregularity of everything. Looking at one thing in particular may make it appear irregular, but if we look at that thing in relation to everything (the all) then that irregularity or imperfection becomes purposeful and important. For instance, we may look upon cloudy rainy days as imperfect (or wrong) and most of us would like nothing but sunny days. Yet, the earth would burn up for lack of rain.
Our perception of imperfection is just that -- a perception. That which we see as imperfections in others are not only necessary for their growth but also tremendous opportunities for us to get wet in the living waters of love. All of our imperfections are made perfect in love. We are bathing in an ocean of love or imperfections (it is your choice as to the way you will look at it), but few have the courage to accept it and swim.
